We will start our journey towards ancient cities in Sri Lanka’s cultural triangle. On the mid way we will stop at elephant orphanage- Pinnawala (entrance ticket included). This is an institution that has been looking after orphaned or injured elephants that would otherwise have surely died. If you leave the hotel early then you can watch the elephants bath in the river after the youngest babies are milk feed.
After lunch we will move towards “Golden Cave rock temple” at Dambulla. An ancient Buddhist monastery (2nd century BC) with over thousands of paintings on rock (entrance ticket included). Overnight stay at Habarana. Have a relaxing Ayurvedic massage in the evening ( optional).
Anuradhapura was the kingdom of Sri Lanka for the period of 4th century BC to 10th century AD. There are many historical buildings and their ruins can be witnessed in this city which is approximately one hour away from the hotel. Buddhists most sacred “Bodhi” tree and many other Buddhist temples are the highlights of the visit. The entrance tickets included.
After Lunch, we will start the Minneriya Natioanal Park safari. This park is very well known to see wild elephants & many types of other wild life. A separate four wheel drive jeep will be provided for you with an experienced safari driver. Jeep, entry tickets are included in package. Overnight stay at Habarana or Sigiriya.
Leave hotel after the breakfast towards Sigiriya Lion rock fortress which is one of Sri Lanka's most fascinating UNESCO world heritage sites. No matter how often you climb to the summit of this one-time hilltop fortress of the maverick Sinhalese king, Kassapa, the pleasure barely diminishes because of the abandon spectacular views at the summit. Sigiriya is being a rural village, we could experience the traditional village life, their traditional bullock cart rides, mud houses and also can enjoy traditional village lunch. This is an optional activity at approximately US$ 15-20 pp).
The afternoon is allocated on exploring the ancient city of Polonnaruwa, The Sri Lanka rulers have used this city as the capital during the era of 11th to 14th century. Many historical Buddhist temples and buildings can still be seen. (entrance ticket included). Overnight stay at Habarana or Sigiriya.
Leave hotel after the breakfast towards Kandy which was the Sri Lanka’s last Kingdom before it was moved under British ruling in 1815. On the way to Kandy, you will have a complementary visit to a Spice garden at city Matale.
Sri Lanka is popular since ancient times for a wide range of spices, herbs & related herbal treatments. The quality of the Sri Lankan spices including Cinnamon are unmatched with any other origin in the world.
Another interesting site on the way to Kandy is the “Aluvihare” temple, which was the place where the Buddhism was documented first time in the world by 1st century BC. The temple is built in a beautiful cave. (Entrance fee included).
Kandy was the Sri Lanka’s last Kingdom before it was moved under British ruling in 1815. By the evening we will be visiting the Buddhist’s most sacred temple in Sri Lanka, the temple of tooth relic followed by a cultural performance show. (Entrance tickets included). Overnight stay at Kandy.
The Royal Botanical garden of Kandy is one of the most beautiful sites in Kandy. The landscape spreads over 47 acres filled with a collection of rare trees & flowers. The garden has been established way back in 1371 and there are signs of many historical events.
Kandy being the centre for gems & jewelries, we would have a visit to a gemological museum and a workshop. You will be able to see the traditional mining techniques and range of precious stones finds in Sri Lanka.
The afternoon is assigned to explore the city & shopping. Overnight stay at Kandy hotel.
Our next destination would be towards Sri Lanka’s highest misty mountain area. The journey is approx. 2 hours trough scenic route of mountains, waterfalls & tea estates. If your bookings are done in advance, we could arrange a train journey on this based on availability (approx. US$ 7 pp). On the way you will be able to visit one of the tea plantation & a factory. Enjoy trekking through tea plantations & relax the evening at Nuwara Eliya misty mountain city. Overnight stay at Nuwara Eliya.
Horton plains is a special botanical wild life area in the highest altitudes of approx. 2200. There will be approximately 7 km trekking through the park. A mountain edge of a sharp steep of 700 mtrs called “worlds end” and a beautiful waterfall of Bakers falls are some of the attractions on the walk. Entrance tickets included. By the afternoon we will be leaving towards the most famous Yala National park. On the way we will be able to see many waterfalls. Overnight stay at Yala or Tissa.
The Yala national park is the home for many wild life such as Leopards, Elephants, Bear, Dear & many birds. We should start the Safari very early in the morning to have the best results. Relax in the evening & overnight stay at Yala or Tissa.
By noon, you will be transferred from Yala towards beach hotel in Koggala or Galle. On the way we could see the world’s second largest blow whole situated in Tangalle beach town. Relax the evening by the beach & overnight stay at Koggala or Galle hotel.
The largest water mammal “Blue whale” is commonly seen in the ocean closer to the southern beaches. You have this memorable option of having a short boat journey at approx. US$ 50 pp. Having an early morning start is a must.
By the evening, we will be visiting one of the turtle hatchery at the area. We have five types of sea turtles out of the seven verities in the world around the same area, entry tickets included.
Within 1 – 2 hours drive in side to the land, we could reach to one section of Sri Lanka’s rain forests. We will have a half day trekking through this rain forest. You will enjoy breath taking views of the jungle.
A fortress done by the Dutch during the 17th century is secured in Galle. It will be a great experience to observe the fort city architecture & the city structure. Some of the Dutch cultural elements still can be seen.
By evening we will have a boat safari in a nearby lagoon. The journey is through mangrove shades & great site to enjoy water wild life.
Time to say bye to Sri Lanka. Based on the flight time, we will be transferring you to the airport.
